Language and representation

The newspaper change its format on the 15th January 2018. It was previous known as the Berliner size (smaller than a broadsheet, bigger than a tabloid) and then re-launched to a tabloid ( but this was in terms of size than style)

Typography: Sans Serif font with rounded ends and in black. This is a simple font and bold. This fit in with the newspaper being liberal and for ‘progressives’.
Formal and serious, which was associated with ‘quality’ newspapers.
Mixture of bold and non bold fonts throughout to connote a combination of tradition and modernity.
Body copy was written in a serif font, making it easy to read and traditional for newspapers.

Colour: House colour linked to the brand -à Grey-blue.Different colours branded different sections.
Images: Uses full colour photography, which brings variety and visual interest. Most images are of politicians, celebrities and ordinary people. Some are close ups, most are mid or long shots to connote a news orientation.
Use of Language: Headlines are written in a journalistic style (newsy), but are formal. Skyboxes informal tone, more personal and helpful.
Values: Liberal values: tolerance, fairness and progress through media language, which makes it mainstream.
It’s designed to connote that the newspaper is packed full of news, which celebrates the value of information.

Shrunk newspaper to correlate with mobile and desktop versions.
Reader orientated rather than copy run.

Layout- a large body of texts, large picture- powerful image emphasised to reader.
Symmetrical- easy read for readers, Ordered which is formal appealing to older audiences.
Title in top let hand corner to uphold 'Z' technique.
Typography- Masthead= bold, serif point reflective of style and tone of newspaper.
Sky box- same font but different colour to entice readers, power of three 'bolder, better, bigger'
conventional small font to newspapers east to read.
Language= formal to appeal to ABC1 readers.
Mode of address- direct address, inclusivity
Images- not sexualised, powerful links to me to campaign.
images in sky box- link in with scott trust values of inclusivity for everyone. Specific chefs are influential and fancy recipes link to ABC1 target audience. No editing to make it seem more realistic allowing target audiences to relate to them.
graphics and colour- Purple= neutral reflecting liberalism, colour of yellow on specific is brighter and more engaging for readers.
Media language has been mediated, image cropped to fit in with me to campaign and get point across.
Intertextuality of sport and cooking magazine.  Nigella Lawson has cooking show.
